Know what your option selling actually earned

Premium collected is not profit. Option Journal rebuilds your whole book from your broker export, with rolls chained, assignments detected and collateral tracked, then shows you win rate, expectancy and return on capital.

  • Rolls & assignments

Chained and detected, not lost as loose lines

  • Seller analytics

How it works

From a broker export to an honest number

Three steps, and the third one is the reason for the first two.

  1. 01

    Import your history

Run an Interactive Brokers Flex Query and upload the CSV. Opens, closes, rolls, assignments and stock legs are parsed and normalised in one pass. Not on IBKR yet? Add trades by hand.

  2. 02

    The book rebuilds itself

Positions are reconstructed lot by lot. A put rolled five times stays one chain with its cumulative premium. An assignment becomes shares. Collateral is computed per position and per expiration date.

  3. 03

    See what actually happened

Win rate, expectancy, annualised return on capital and drawdown, with P&L broken down by ticker, strategy and days to expiration, for each portfolio separately.

Why Option Journal

Six things a spreadsheet won't do

Every one of these is possible in Excel. None of them survives contact with a year of trades.

  • Import IBKR in one file

Upload your Interactive Brokers Flex export and the whole book rebuilds itself: opens, closes, rolls, assignments and stock legs. Manual entry covers everything else.

  • Rolls stay one story

A put rolled five times is one position with a cumulative premium, not five disconnected trades. The full chain stays visible.

  • Assignments tracked as assignments

Broker exports file them as expirations, which quietly zeroes your assignment rate. Here the wheel stays connected from put to shares to covered call.

  • Collateral and expiration load

See pledged collateral per position and how much lands on each expiration date, before you add another line.

  • Analytics built for sellers

Win rate, expectancy, annualized return on capital and drawdown, broken down by ticker, strategy, and days to expiration.

  • Portfolios that stay separate

Each portfolio keeps its own cash, goals, and tax settings. A taxable account and a retirement account never bleed into each other.

Who built this

Built by someone who needed it

Selling premium since
8 years
Trades through my own account
Several thousand

Anyone can ship a trading app in a weekend now. What they cannot ship is the eight years of selling puts and covered calls that tell you which details actually matter.

Option Journal exists because every tool I tried got those details wrong. Rolls recorded as unrelated trades. Collateral nobody tracked. And my own broker export filing assignments as plain expirations, which quietly reported my assignment rate as 0% after dozens of real assignments.

Those are not hypothetical bugs. They are the ones I hit in my own account, and fixing them properly is what this app is.
